The British flagged 62000 tonne MSC Napoli built in 1991 was on a voyage from Belgium to Portugal with 2323 containers on board when it was damaged in a storm off the Lizard on Thursday 18th January 2007. Its 26 crew members were winched to safety by an RNAS Culd rose helicopter it was then towed & deliberately beached on a sand bank to stop it sinking in deep water one mile off Branscombe in Lyme Bay, between Beer and Sidmouth, on the World Heritage Coast, South East Devon, South West England, UK on Saturday 20th January, pictured here on 23rd January 2007 surrounded by tugs & a barge, ship, shipping, vessels, Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Company, listing, wreck, wrecked, damage, damaged, stricken, grounded, cargo, pollution, environment, water, sea, oil, sunny, sunshine, coast, coastal, Jurassic coast, horizontal, English Channel, Westcountry, Britain, British, Great Britain, GB
